My Community Standards Statement
I am committed to supporting, celebrating, and involving people of all cultures, identities, and faiths. My goal is to host a safe and inclusive environment that celebrates diversity in all forms. I expect that all members of my community follow these standards.
I BELIEVE IN EQUALITY, INCLUSIVITY, AND HUMAN RIGHTS
Inclusivity.
All are safe and accepted in my community. I pledge to listen, learn, and put into practice respectful and inclusive attitudes and behavior within my community, and I ask the same of every member.
Equality.
The freedom of speech is a powerful privilege that must be handled with respect and care. I pledge to not tolerate racist or hateful attitudes or behavior in my community. Anyone who breaks this ruling principle will be immediately banned from my community.
Human Rights.
We are all one. We all belong on this planet. I pledge to speak up against violence and hate. I pledge to defend anyone victimized by violence and hate. I pledge to fight prejudices against age, race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation.
A statement to all potential and current clients:
As an editor and writing coach who works directly with a writing community, I will not accept any work that contains hateful or violent content that discriminates against other people. Obviously, this can be a very subjective determination. What I consider to be violent or hateful may not be viewed as such by others. If you’re unsure whether your content may violate my standards, I invite you to reach out to me for further information. If I find that I cannot accept your work, I’ll explain the reasons why, and I’m happy to discuss further if you so desire.
In no way am I judging any writer for content that I personally find offensive as I believe there is opportunity to learn from each other in situations like these.
I ask that together, we follow a Receive, Reflect, Respond model to further deepen our knowledge and understanding of both sides.
Before responding to my feedback, I request that you listen and reflect. I, too, will listen to and reflect upon any discussion you set forth before responding. This model will encourage both sides to further our education and deepen our awareness of unconscious bias related to age, race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation.
My end-goal is to stay true to my community standards and to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all. The decisions and choices I make will be in alignment with my values as outlined above.
